Coalition of British Chambers Calls for UK Recognition as a Trusted Partner in “Made in Europe” Framework

A coalition of 15 British Chambers of Commerce across Europe, together with the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), has issued a Joint Statement on the importance of recognising the United Kingdom as a trusted partner within the framework of the proposed Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA) and the wider Made in Europe discussion.
The statement highlights concerns that restrictive interpretations of Made in Europe could create unnecessary barriers for deeply integrated EU-UK supply chains and undermine European competitiveness.
Key recommendations
The coalition calls on policymakers to:
- Recognise the United Kingdom as a trusted partner in the Made in Europe framework;
- Allow UK-origin industrial content to contribute towards relevant European value chain, industrial policy and procurement frameworks;
- Provide businesses with certainty through a clear framework, rather than fragmented product-by-product assessments.
The coalition notes that European industries including automotive, aerospace, pharmaceuticals and advanced manufacturing operate through deeply interconnected EU-UK supply chains. Decades of industrial cooperation and commitments under the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement mean the UK cannot be treated as a standard third country within these discussions.
